# Profile fields

> Reference for profile fields: field types, the Required, Internal only, participant list, and filter settings, and which participant types a field applies to.

Profile fields are the questions participants answer when they register, and what appears on their profile and in the participant list. They sit at the bottom of the **Participant types** tab in **Event settings**. **Add field** opens a two-step dialog: choose a field type, then fill in its settings and select **Save changes**.

## Field types

| Field type | Answer | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| **Short text** | One line of text. | |
| **Choice** | One or more options you define. | Choose the **Type** when creating: **Single select**, **Multi-select**, or **Multi-level select**. Add at least one option; **Add sub-option** is available for multi-level fields. The type can't be changed after saving. |
| **Consent checkbox** | A box the participant ticks to agree. | |
| **File** | An image or a PDF, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file up to 4 MB. | |
| **Company** · **Job title** · **Introduction** | Short text with a fixed meaning, for example shown next to the name in the roster. | One of each per event. The card shows **Already added** once it's in use. |
| **Link** | A web address. | |
| **Social profile** | A profile link or username on one **Platform**: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, or X. | One field per platform. The platform can't be changed after saving. |

## Settings

| Setting | Effect |
| - | - |
| **Label** | The question participants see. Required, up to 255 characters. Prefilled but editable for the fixed-meaning and social fields. |
| **Required** | Participants are asked to answer. Participants with a missing or invalid required answer show under **Needs correction** in the roster. |
| **Internal only** | Only your team sees and fills in the field. Turning it on switches off the three settings below. |
| **Show in participant list** | Other participants see the answer in the participant list. On by default. |
| **Participants can edit** | Participants fill in the field at registration and can edit it later. On by default. Off means only your team fills it in. |
| **Use as participant list filter** | Participants can filter the participant list by this field. Choice fields only, and **Show in participant list** must be on. |
| **Applies to** | Participant types that get this field. Leave blank to apply to every participant type. |

## The field list

Each row shows the **Label** with its **Required**, **Internal only**, and fixed-meaning chips, the **Type**, and **Applies to** (**All participant types** when blank). Drag rows to reorder them. **Edit field** changes the label, options, switches, and types it applies to; the field type and platform stay fixed. **Delete field** asks for confirmation, then removes the field from participant profiles.

A field that applies to only one participant type blocks deleting that type until you change **Applies to**. See [Participant types and rules](/host/settings/participant-types).

<Accordion title="Use as participant list filter is disabled">
