# Publish the event page

> Set the site address, clear the Before you publish checklist, publish the event, and unpublish it if needed.

Publishing opens the event page to participants. Everything happens in **Publishing**: the **Event page** section holds the site address, and the **Before you publish** list shows what's left.

<Note>
  Publishing needs at least one participant type and a payment method for the
  organization. Only admins can add the payment method. An event whose end has
  already passed can't be published until its date is changed.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set the site address">
    Under **Event page**, enter the **Site address** and select **Save changes**. The address becomes the event page URL, ending in `.umoh.events`.

    Use 3 to 63 characters: lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or number. Uppercase letters are converted as you type. Some addresses are reserved, and an address another event uses is rejected with **This address is already taken.**
  </Step>

  <Step title="Clear the checklist">
    **Before you publish** lists four items. **Basic info** and **Participant types** link to their tabs, and an event needs at least one participant type. **Site address** is complete once it's saved. **Payment method** is added once per organization: admins select **Add payment method** in the row, while members see **Ask an admin to add a payment method.**

    Any member can clear the first three items. See [Add a payment method](/host/publishing/payment-method) for the fourth.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish">
    Select **Publish event**. The first time, the **Choose a plan** dialog opens with **Chat** and **Meet & AI**. Choosing Meet & AI adds the note **After publishing, you can't switch back to Chat.** Confirm with **Publish event**. The toast **Event published** confirms it.

    Once an event has been published, publishing again skips the dialog. See [Plans](/host/concepts/plans) before you choose.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## After publishing

* The overview shows the event page link with a **Copy** button, the plan status, and on Meet & AI the page end time.
* **Billing** appears in the event sidebar and stays there from now on.
* **Site address** becomes read-only with **The address is locked while the event is published.**
* The **Publishing** card shows when the event was first published and offers **Unpublish**.

## Unpublishing

Select **Unpublish**. The dialog **Unpublish this event?** says **Participants lose access to the event page until you publish again.** and, while the page is open, that billing continues until the page ends. Confirm with **Unpublish**.

The event returns to **Draft** and the site address can be edited again. Billing periods keep running until the page end, the event can't switch back to Chat, and publishing again needs the same four items but no plan dialog. See [Event lifecycle](/host/concepts/event-lifecycle).

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Publish event is disabled">
    One of the four items is open, or you changed the site address without
    saving it, which shows **Save the site address to publish.** If the event
    has already ended, a message next to the button reads **This event has
    already ended. Change its date and time to publish it.** Change **Date and
    time** in **Basic info** first.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The site address is rejected">
    **This site address isn't valid.** means the address doesn't follow the
    format: 3 to 63 lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, not starting or
    ending with a hyphen. **This address is reserved. Choose a different one.**
    and **This address is already taken.** need a different address.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Ask an admin to add a payment method">
    Members can't add payment methods. An admin adds one from the **Payment
    method** row here or from the organization **Settings**. The item completes
    for everyone once it's saved.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Couldn't load the plans">
    Select **Publish event** again.
