# Add a payment method

> Choose the organization's billing currency, save a card through Stripe, and change the card later from the organization settings.

A payment method belongs to the organization and covers all of its events. Saving one clears the **Payment method** item in **Before you publish** for every event, and later invoices are charged to it automatically.

<Note>
  Only admins can add or change the payment method. Members see **Ask an admin
  to add a payment method.** instead of the button. The billing currency is
  chosen once, before the first card, and can't be changed after a payment
  method is saved.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Add payment method">
    Select **Add payment method** in one of three places: the **Payment method** row of **Before you publish** in **Publishing**, the **Choose a plan** dialog when the plan you chose needs one, or the **Billing** group of the organization **Settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the billing currency">
    The first time, **Choose a billing currency** opens. Select **KRW** (**Korean and international cards**) or **USD** (**Visa, Mastercard, and other cards**). From an event, the currency defaults to KRW when the event's time zone is Seoul and to USD otherwise. From **Settings**, nothing is preselected.

    Nothing is charged at this point. Select **Continue to Stripe**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the card and return">
    Enter the card on the Stripe page and save it. You're brought back to the page you started from. The toast moves from **Checking your payment method…** to **Payment method saved**, and the publish checklist updates.

    If you leave the Stripe page without saving, you return with nothing changed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Check the result

In the organization **Settings**, the **Billing** group shows the card brand and last four digits, its expiry, and the **Billing currency**. Organizations billed by invoice see **Paid by invoice under your contract.** instead and don't need a card.

## Changing the card

In **Settings**, select **Change** next to the card. The same Stripe page opens, without the currency step. Once the new card is saved, any unpaid invoices are charged to it right away.

From an event's **Billing** page, **Change payment method** takes admins to the same setting while an unpaid period exists. See [Billing](/host/billing) and [Organization settings](/host/organization/settings).

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Couldn't open the payment page">
    Select the button again. If you're a member, the button isn't shown at all,
    and an admin has to add the payment method.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Your organization's billing currency is already set">
    Another admin saved the currency while your dialog was open. Refresh the
    page and select **Add payment method** again. The currency step is skipped.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The payment method isn't saved yet">
    After returning from Stripe, the confirmation can lag. Refresh in a moment.
    **Couldn't find this payment method setup. Add it again.** means the setup
    didn't complete, so start over from **Add payment method**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The card has expired">
    The expiry line in **Settings** turns red. Select **Change** to save a new
    card. An expired card still counts as a payment method, so publishing isn't
    blocked.
  </Accordion>
